Which kind of Stripe key should I use?

Either works: the secret key, starting sk_live_, or a restricted key you create, starting rk_live_. A restricted key carries only the permissions you set on it in Stripe, and your assistant can use exactly those.

Can it change anything in Stripe?

Only if you allow changes when you connect, and only what the key may do in Stripe. Your assistant proposes the change, and nothing is sent until you approve it.

Does it show MRR?

Stripe keeps no MRR figure of its own. Your assistant works it out from your active subscriptions' prices, with yearly plans counted as a twelfth a month, and discounts are not in that figure.

Why would the figures be a fraction of what Stripe shows?

A test-mode key. A key starting sk_test_ or rk_test_ reads the test ledger, which is a different set of books. Switch the dashboard out of test mode before you copy or create the key.

We run a platform with connected accounts. Are they included?

Not through one key. A key reads the account it belongs to, and each connected account is its own account with its own key. If that does not work at your size, tell us.

Setting it up 3 steps. You copy a key or the connection details from the account and paste them into HeyMetra.

Three steps. Any Stripe secret key or restricted key works, and HeyMetra adds no limit of its own: your assistant can read and change what that key is allowed to in Stripe.

    Copy a secret key or create a restricted one

    Stripe Dashboard → Developers → API keys. The secret key there works, and so does a restricted key you create on the same page. HeyMetra reaches only what the key allows in Stripe, and every change your assistant proposes still waits for your yes in your assistant.

    A restricted key carries only the permissions set on it. A resource left at None answers as not permitted, and the rest keep working.

    Paste it into HeyMetra

    A live key starts with sk_live_ or rk_live_. Choose Stripe on the Connections screen and paste it. It is stored encrypted and never shown again, here or anywhere else.

    A key starting sk_test_ or rk_test_ is the test mode one. It connects and answers about test data, which reads as a business with almost no revenue.

Four things are known to go wrong with Stripe: a test-mode key that answers about test data, a restricted key missing a permission so one question fails while others work, an approved change the key is not allowed to make, and connected accounts that each need a key of their own.

It connects, and the figures are a fraction of what Stripe shows.
A test-mode key. It answers about the test ledger, which is a different set of books rather than an error.
Switch the dashboard out of test mode before copying or creating the key, and check it starts sk_live_ or rk_live_.
Some answers work and others are refused as not permitted.
A restricted key without Read on that resource. Each kind of question reads a different one, so a missing permission shows up as one question failing rather than the connection failing.
Edit the restricted key in Stripe and give it Read on the resource named in the refusal. The same key updates in place; there is nothing to paste again.
You approved a change and Stripe refused it.
A restricted key with Read but not Write on that resource, or a connection set up read-only.
Give the key Write on the resource in Stripe. A read-only connection is changed by connecting again and allowing changes.
A platform's connected accounts are missing.
A key reads the account it belongs to. Stripe Connect accounts are separate accounts.
Connect each account HeyMetra should see with its own key. If that is unworkable at your scale, tell us: your assistant can send HeyMetra a request, and it is counted.
