Four values and one file from App Store Connect. Two things decide whether it works: the key has to be a team key made by an Admin, and the .p8 file can be downloaded only once, so save it before you close the page.

   Generate a TEAM key, not an individual one

   In App Store Connect go to Users and Access → Integrations → App Store Connect API. Stay on the Team Keys tab. Apple's individual keys cannot read Sales and Finance at all, so a key made there will not answer for sales however its role is set.

   Generating a team key requires the Admin role, so if that tab will not let you create one, somebody with Admin has to.

   Give the key a role wide enough for what you want to ask

   Apple decides what a key can reach from the role you pick here, and the role cannot be changed afterwards. Sales figures need a role with report access; reading your App Store reviews needs one that covers them. Admin covers everything HeyMetra reads.

   Worth knowing before you choose: an App Store Connect team key reaches EVERY app on the account whatever role it has. Apple offers no way to limit one to a single app.

   Download the .p8 file, because this is your only chance

   Apple keeps no copy. If it is lost the key is gone and you generate a new one. Note the Key ID beside it and the Issuer ID shown above the list; the Issuer ID is the same for every key on the account.

   Copy your Vendor Number for sales figures

   It is in App Store Connect under Payments and Financial Reports, an eight-digit number at the top. Without it HeyMetra can still read your apps and your reviews; only sales reports need it.

   Paste all four into HeyMetra

   On the Connections screen choose App Store Connect. The Issuer ID and Key ID go in as they are, and the private key is the WHOLE .p8 file including its BEGIN and END lines. HeyMetra proves the key works before saving anything.

Five things go wrong, and most come down to how Apple issues keys: a role too narrow for reviews, an individual key that cannot read sales, a .p8 pasted without its first and last lines, a file that was never saved, and today's sales that Apple has not published yet.

Your apps and sales answer, but asking about reviews is refused.

The key's role does not cover customer reviews. Apple fixes what a key can reach when it is created and the role cannot be widened afterwards.

Generate a new team key with a wider role and paste it into this connection with the pencil. The old one can then be revoked in App Store Connect.

Sales are refused while everything else works.

Either the key is an individual key, which Apple does not let read Sales and Finance at all, or the Vendor Number is missing from the connection.

Check the key was made on the Team Keys tab, and that the Vendor Number from Payments and Financial Reports is in the connection.

The private key is rejected when you paste it.

The .p8 was pasted without its first and last lines, or reformatted by a text editor that folded the line breaks.

Open the file in a plain text editor and paste everything, including -----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY----- and the END line.

You cannot find the .p8 file to paste.

Apple lets it be downloaded once and keeps no copy of it.

Generate a new key, download it immediately, and revoke the old one.

Today's sales are missing.

Apple publishes one sales report per day, some hours after the day has ended, so the most recent one available is yesterday's.

Ask about yesterday or earlier. A day with no report yet is reported as not published, never as zero sales.
