What Google Calendar is

Google Calendar is where a week is actually committed: the meetings, who is in them, what was called off and what is still free. It answers questions nobody keeps a report for — how much of next week is already spoken for, when this customer was last seen, whether two people have an hour in common.

What it can do, and what you can switch off

Each of these is a switch on the connection itself. Turn one off and the assistant is told, and cannot use it — so a team can read order volume without ever reaching the payouts. Where Google Calendar itself will not serve something, it says so here rather than answering as though there were nothing to find.

Let your assistant use this account's own API for anything HeyMetra's other operations do not cover. It reads directly, and what comes back is the provider's own answer rather than a figure HeyMetra has checked. It can also propose changes — those are never applied until you approve them, and HeyMetra cannot undo one afterwards.

Limit A calendar shared as free/busy shows that a slot is taken and nothing else — no title and no guests, whatever is granted.

Limit Recurring events are stored as a rule plus exceptions rather than as one row per occurrence, so counting them means asking for the expansion rather than counting what comes back.

What it can change, and what stops it

These are the only tools here that write. Every other call reads. A write is checked against the ceilings below before anyone is asked to approve it, so a call that would breach one is refused rather than queued.

Propose a change through this account's own API, for operations HeyMetra does not cover. Nothing is sent until you approve it, and HeyMetra cannot undo it afterwards.

The ceilings — how far one change can move a budget, how many campaigns it can touch, how many writes a workspace gets in a day — are on the security page. The four questions worth putting to any connector that can write — ours included — are the ones to ask before you authorise this one.

Setting it up

You sign in on Google Calendar's own screen, so no password reaches us. Then add HeyMetra as a remote MCP server where you ask.

Choose what the assistant may do

Read-only, or read and propose events. Read-only is where it starts, and it is not a setting of ours: Google is asked for a permission that cannot write, so nothing could change the calendar even by mistake.

Sign in with the account that has the calendar

Not necessarily your own: a shared team calendar is reached through whoever it was shared with. The grant covers the calendars that person can open.
Pick the calendar and name the connection

Google shows every calendar the account can reach and each becomes its own connection. Name it after the calendar — 'Sales team', not 'Google Calendar' — because that is what you will say when you ask.

When it does not work

These are the things that actually go wrong, written from what you see rather than from what caused it.

Google warns that this app is not verified.

Reading a calendar is what Google calls a sensitive permission, and an app asking for one shows that screen until Google has reviewed it. The same is true of the Analytics and Search Console connectors.

Fix Continue past it if you are comfortable, or wait for the review to complete. Nothing about the connection behaves differently either way.

A colleague's calendar is not in the list.

The grant reaches the calendars the signed-in account can open. A calendar nobody shared with that account is not one of them, and neither is one shared as free/busy only.

Fix Ask for it to be shared with at least 'See all event details', then connect again so the list is read afresh.

Events answer, but the guest list is empty.

A calendar shared as free/busy shows that a slot is taken and nothing else — no title, no guests. That is Google honouring how it was shared, not a permission we are missing.

Fix If the detail is needed, the sharing level has to change in Google Calendar; no grant can see past it.

Not yet — Google Calendar is marked Soon. When it opens it is on every plan: plans differ in how many accounts you connect at once, never in which ones. The connectors page names everything that is ready today.

What can I ask about Google Calendar once it is connected?

Whatever the tools can answer — you type the question into Claude or ChatGPT, not into anything of ours. For example: “How much of next week is already booked?” or “When did we last meet this customer?”
